August 18, 2003

ROMARCO MINERALS INC. ("TSXV: R.T.") announces today that Mr. Robert M. Hatch has been appointed as U.S. Exploration Manager.

Mr. Hatch is a geologist and brings to Romarco over 25 years of experience in mineral exploration, primarily for gold and silver deposits. His specialty is the identification and evaluation of volcanic-hosted epithermal gold/silver deposits, especially those that offer the potential for high-grade, bonanza deposits.

Mr. Hatch was employed by Homestake Mining Company from 1977 to 1988, conducting exploration in the western United States, Australia, and New Zealand. While with Homestake, Mr. Hatch was part of the team responsible for exploration and discovery of the McLaughlin Gold Mine in California, and shared responsibility for the discovery of the Idaho Almaden gold deposit in Idaho.

Subsequent to Homestake, Mr. Hatch established a consulting geologist practice, providing exploration services to a number of junior and senior mining companies. In 1990, Mr. Hatch co-founded Frazer Creek Exploration Company, a private Nevada corporation, with land holdings in the Midas District, Elko County, Nevada that are currently leased to Newmont Mining Corporation. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Hatch was Chief Geologist for Gold Valley Resources, a privately held Canadian corporation, and was responsible for managing the company's exploration projects in the United States. In 2001, Mr. Hatch formed Paragon Precious Metals, LLC to acquire and advance the Buckskin National Project in the National District of Humboldt County, Nevada.

Mr. Hatch will be responsible for the Company's exploration activities in the U.S. and the advancement of the Hog Ranch Project in Nevada (see press release dated August 7, 2003). The Company is pleased to have Mr. Hatch join its team. His expertise, knowledge and skills will be very important to the success of the Company's activities at Hog Ranch and continued growth as the Company acquires more projects.
